DESSIN has developed and demonstrated an Ecosystem Services Valuation toolkit. This is a structured approach to measure changes in ecosystem services, which may result from the implementation of a new management or technology solution to tackle challenges of water quality and water scarcity. This ESS Valuation toolkit enables an informed selection of the most promising solutions regarding their impact on the water body, and their broader economic implications. It can also help technology providers to develop new and quantifiable arguments for market uptake of their solutions. Furthermore, DESSIN has validated a portfolio of specific technical solutions for water scarcity and water quality issues. Their technical performance has been demonstrated in five case studies across Europe, and their broader benefits and co-benefits have been evaluated and proven by application of the DESSIN ESS Valuation Toolkit.
